Marketing A Children's Book From A Small Press

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
A small press is publishing my children's book and I will need to do most of the marketing myself. It's a picture book about the swamp and a baby alligator, so I would like to contact aquariums, zoos, nature centers, nature catalogs, etc. about carrying my book in their gift shops or catalogs. How do I go about contacting these organizations, and what do I give them when I do?

Write, call, email -- contact these organizations in whatever manner you think will target them best. You will find databases that list contact information for catalogs.

Most importantly, make it easy for them to purchase books from you. Have a user-friendly website, a reputable distributor and a credible and secure means with which to complete transactions for when you sell directly.

Provide the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY and HOW to those you would like to buy your books. Make it an attractive product for them to offer their customers and they will buy.

Thanks for all the good advice. I will put together something like a press kit along with the actual book. Wish me luck!
