Sponsorships

Posted by Anonymous on 35 Points
Hello everyone,
I’m in the process of doing a fashion show, not any type of show, an intimate apparel one. I would like to know, what is the best way to get sponsorships or donations to put in the gift bags.

Thank you,
Aisha

    Just ask!

Sponsors are like every one-- they want to know "what's in it for me". Think of people who'd benefit from such an event. Cosmetics (Mary Kay is very generous with samples), adult toys, tanning salons, gyms or personal trainers, the list goes on. Tell them about your event, how it would benefit their business and its really that simple. Remind them that they are getting exposure to their prime customer for a very small donation (considering!). And remember, if they donate a $10 item, its really only costing them $5 (or less)-- and its a tax write off under marketing!

Ok, thank you for the answers. Is there a template or a sample of a letter that i could see?

    Thank you,

In the many events I have raised sponsorship for-- personal face to face meetings produce the best results. Sit down and target types of businesses and start filling in local names. Then get on the phone. I have done small events as yours and an international event with over 14,000 attendees. Letters after an event is proven and established works to renew and resign sponsors. But as a new event-- save your postage.

We do however, create "talking points" (remember we usually work with committees) so that everyone is on the same page and not overstating benefits. I will email you privately an example of that.

Sell everything! Sell space on all signage, napkins, pens. in the 14K event, we sold the right for your name on the hotel key-- for $25K.

You give sponsors incentives by creating levels of sponsorship. All donations are not equal. The $5 lipstick isn't the same as the $500 spa package. The higher the donation, the more exposure the sponsor gets.

Look at similar events in your community. Your theatre programs, symphony programs, your church, chamber and school programs. You'll see plenty of examples.
