From Pt. A To Pt. B - Best Way?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Point A(where I am):
I'm from India. I've been working on the direct marketing side as an acc. exec for the past 2 years at a v reputed global agency. I now have decided to go back to school for graduate studies.

Point B (where I want to be)
See myself working for a digital agency or as an interactive marketer for a few years. Then I want to move on to become an analyst at say, Forrester.

I've picked my schools carefully to chart this path from A to B - top on my list are:
1. Medill School, Northwestern Univ. - MS in Integrated Marketing Comm. https://tinyurl.com/daoher
2. NYU - SCPS - MS in Integrated Marketing - https://tinyurl.com/cszvyf
3. VCU Brandcenter - Comm strategy track - https://tinyurl.com/d7tk5v

The trilemma is - which one is the best in terms of:
a. Chances of landing a great job (of course my prev. exp. and talent is a big factor here)
b. The RoI factor - Medill is waaayy too expensive.
c. The importance of the location
d. The school that is best suited to cross the A->B distance.

    Talk to recent graduates from each of these schools as well as the career/placement offices. They'll have the latest first-hand stories for you.

    You've listed the schools in order of their reputations (and probably the costs, too). The real question is whether you'll realize a satisfactory positive ROI for any of them.

    If I were you situation, I would consider contacting the hiring managers at companies such as Forrester, and telling them about your long term plans, and asking their perspective. This way, in addition to understanding their views, you could begin to develop important contacts for your eventual job search. Since you are not looking for an immediate position, I would imagine these hiring managers would have every reason to be open and helpful and honest.
