Selling Homemade Sauces

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I wanted to know what I would need to do to sell my homemade sauces at craftshows/fleamarkets etc.. What kind of regulation do I need to follow to sell these on a very small scale? Thanks.. Coll

Generally nothing...unless the local health department asks. You're making them in your own kitchen...just like baking brownies.

Now, when they sell like crazy and you want to get them into stores, you'll need to find a kitchen. This is something you outsource.

Suggest you check local and state public health dept. regulations. Local charity in (small) city next to our town was just shut down by police for offering "Food not Bombs" to whomever wanted it. Why risk ticking off the officials at this early stage. Not favorable PR. But flavorful sauces, attached to legal, up-front producers certainly earn the right to compete!

    Good luck,
