Press Releases - Getting Customer Approval

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
What are some best practices for getting customers to approve press releases? Many of our clients have corporate policies against any kind of endorsement. We have tried putting terms in the contract only to have them removed by their legal dept. We have tried offering discounts for press releases and case studies with few takers. We have tried just publishing them on occasion when only had approval of their project manager (but not PR or legal), only to be embarrased later when we were asked to remove them from our web site. So what is the secret to getting customers to approve a press release?

There's a difference between an endorsement and a press release. If your release is "we worked with company X and produced an increase in profit by 10%", that's a fact that can be shared (unless your client's confidentiality has been assured). In fact, I'd encourage you to clearly delineate your company's privacy policy (in regards to public mentions) in your initial contracts.
