New Technology

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi Guys

I have been asked to put together a list of enhancements and developments to our website, and i would like to know if any of you guys know of any new exciting technologies or developments that will really give the site a bust to the next level.

I am not looking at over elaborate expensive things just little tweaks here and there or a new buzz i may be have over looked but you have had experience with.

Thanks

Brad

    Dear Brad,

A blog. A Facebook feed. Links to other "authority" sites. Video. Podcasts. All of this MUST relate to your audience and it MUST offer high value and great benefits because these are the things that keep people coming back.

Consider ditching Flash elements because they slow down page load times. When I opened your page, the main image took several seconds to appear, and I have a high speed Internet link.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Gary

Thanks for the advice, to you know of any faster alternatives to Flash? or is there a replacement you would recommend?

    Thanks

Allow people to upload photos/videos of themselves in your clothing.

Allow people to create an online profile of themselves (height/weight/measurements, etc.) and allow them to see what the clothes would (approximately) look like on their body.

There is a case study on the Tommy Hilfiger e-commerce site at https://www.atg.com/resource-library/case-studies/CS-Tommy-Hilfiger.pdf. There is a great story about how "Recommendations" software (cross-sell recommendations) worked for them, from a company called ATG. In addition, they provided a 360 degree view of the clothing, which I feel would definitely enhance the shopping experience and give more confidence to purchasers.
No idea at all about the cost of this software, but would probably pay for you to check it out and look for alternatives as well.
    Good luck.

    Dear Brad,

As a non Flash-based slide show, this might be worth further investigation. I have not used this, but it could help.
