Hi all

I need to write a marketing assignment which gives an answer to the question " why some web-based businesses are successful and some not" I have to choose a sucessful company like EBAY and one which is less sucessful. What are good companies to compare ? Where can i find free articles and research material ? Is there an expert which has experience in this and could give me some tips ?

    You could also compare Ebay to Ubid.com and Yahoo Auctions. A simple Google search will yield tons of articles on the subject.

    The travel industry is also a good example.

    Compare Expedia or Travelocity to Priceline (successful, but less than originally thought) or Hotwire.

    Resources: The magazine Business 2.0 www.business2.com is a great resource for articles on what dotcoms have been successful and why and which ones have not, especially if you go back a couple of years.

    Salesforce.com is a great example of an ASP (application service provider) that is succeeding. There were many ASP failures in 2000, and the business media bashed that model, but now they're saying that salesforce.com has proven it's a model that can actually WORK.

    Do a google search on "salesforce.com" and "asp," and you'll probably find some great articles.
