Pocket Folder/brochure Critique

Posted by online on 250 Points
I'm a web developer, but my nephew asked me to make a Pocket Folder/Brochure for his Environmental Engineering firm.

I've really struggled with it ... had to learn all new software, fiddle with a weird logo, communicate civil/environmental engineering, work with tiny budget and stock images.

Things I can't change -- using "navy" blue, using the SO logo.

I'm totally unhappy with what I have ... but we are down to the wire. They "love it" ... but I just can't put my finger on why I'm unhappy with it.

I think it has to do with the "golden rules" of design or something.

Well, take a look and see what you think.

NOTE - I'm probably going to move around the pictures on the inside pages ... and add a couple more.

I think I have "creative brochure block" and a lack of confidence. :)

Well, I agree it doesn't stand up and say "WOW!", but it's fine - plenty of white space, easily-read fonts, and attractive colors.

Were you the same person who had the environmental engineering web site with the frog?

You may be "hungover" from that!

I do think though (best I can tell by squinting at the screen) that the copy needs work. There's no particular reason to hire them over any other firm.

Duh - I forgot to add links to the PDF files - the web site went down.

I got the text from my nephew. I'm trying to keep it really "light" ... using the pocket folder to hold their "Statement of Qualifications" and other things.

Then on the web site ... I can really work on the copy. We're right in the middle of updating the web site too.

Give me 5 minutes to post the PDF links.

    P.S. Yes, we're the frog people. :)

NOTE: Still cleaning up text on inside brochure pages. Waiting on approval from nephew.

It's professional, attractive . . . if this was done on a tight budget (or as a favor) then it's work to add to your portfolio.

Thanks to you all. Wonderful feedback.

I love Marketingprofs and will keep coming back.

Wish I'd found you guys years ago.

    Best regards, A.
