New Restaurant Opening

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I am opening a new restaurant in the caribbean. this will be the only polynesian/hawaiian restaurant in the region. i am looking for fun, interesting ideas for the opening of the restaurant..

we are probably going to get an Elvis impersonator to sing and get a local band to provide music during the event..

Any other interesting ideas are MOST welcome, whether they relate to the food, entertainment, decor... i am looking for something exciting, funny, memorable.. without having to pay billions of dollars!

    Dear Crankystar,

There's no reason it ought to cost you billions!

OK. Ideas for all areas: ice sculpting and sand castle building, all themed on polynesian/Hawaiian motifs. A parade of hula girls from a well-known land mark to your restaurant, each girl giving out discount coupons valid for opening night, or opening week, or opening month as she dances by.

Some kind of Hawaii Five-0 theme, "Book him Dano, table 1!" might also be a big hit. Keep it light, airy, and entertaining and you'll be fine.

    I hope this helps.

Another idea: Polynesia/Hawaii smacks of luau!! Don Ho, "Tiny Bubbles" with bubble-blowing machine and individual containers of bubbles for favors (w/restaurant logo/name of course), hula dancers, fire twirlers, etc. Get ahold of a Hawaii dvd from a local travel specialist for even more ideas. Poi, which is a classic, traditional Hawaiian food, could fuel a Poi-eating contest--invite TV and radio stations for (hopefully) additional mileage. How about a raffle for an all expense, paid trip to Hawaii--with proceeds going to a local charity?

    Good luck

    Ideas:

    1. Free "Polynesia/Hawaii" theme cocktails to go round the table.

    2. Food sampling along the busiest part of the street before opening to entice people to go to the opening. Throw in a discount for those who wish to reserve seat on the spot.

    3. Not sure how big is your restaurant but maybe having hula dancers, fire twirlers (as jag suggested) togeher with item 2 above may help to create buzz pre-opening

All the best in your new restaurant

    Lynn
