    Dear monti_n120,

Phil is, of course, right. Getting to decision makers as a cold caller, you'll have little if any joy.

So what you need to do is figure out which niche industries are already doing some form of online advertising, establish RELATIONSHIPS with them (based on value and benefits
for them, not you), and position yourself as the go to person to meet their needs.

The more specific you can be in your niche, the better your chances are of connecting with the right people. The niche they're in is not really that important to you, what's of far greater importance is that they currently spend money on online advertising.

But the question you must answer first is WHY, if someone can buy advertising DIRECTLY from Google, why on Earth ought they to buy from or through you?

To find niches, you've got to comb through Google's keywords. Think wide and deep. Where you find large numbers of people searching, you'll find advertisers. Where you find sites using Adwords, you'll find contacts.

It'll mean a lot of grunt work, but the results could serve you well.

    I hope this helps.

I'm curious, why should someone do business with you and your company, rather than all the other hundreds of people involved with Google ad words ?

    Hi Monti,

Firstly, let me congratulate you for taking the initiative to find this forum and ask your question.

If I understand correctly, you are "working as a telesales Rep. in a google adwords managing company".

In other words, they hired you to do a job and you want to do the best job that you can.

The answers from Phil and Gary above may be correct but they should be targeted at your bosses (the people who hired you) not at you.

So; given that you have a specified job to do, you are absolutely correct to recognise that you need to 'work smart not hard'.

    My initial suggestion would be:

Take 1 or 2 whole days to get online and research the market.

Do massive google searches try to understand the types of companies that are already BUYING google ad words and content listings.

Note them down and list them all by industry sector and type.

Take a look at what key words they are buying, check their page code and view the meta tags and or get yourself a key words checker tool. (many discussed in these forums).

Once you have figured out which industries are spending the most money, then do some research on Which companies in the same sector are NOT buying google ads.

once you get in touch with these companies, you will be able o show them exactly how their competitors are doing it and ask them the key question 'Why are you currently not buying google advertising?".

Don't worry too much about getting to the key decision maker immediately, just get a hold of someone in the marketing/advertising dept. who is willing to listen to your pitch. If they like what they hear, they will elevate it for you to the key person and you will get a call back.

What is important in making your calls is that you can provide a real value proposition to explain to them WHY THEY NEED GOOGLE ADS and WHY your company is the right one to manage it.

have case studies and white papers ready to send to them to show how you will boost business for them at a very reasonable cost.

The type of selling that you are currently doing is hard, no question about it, but if you go about it in a scientific manner, you can close some deals.

You don't need to close too many deals, try to get a big buyer away from your competition and you boss will be impressed and happy.

Try to close 2 or 3 small accounts and once you have found the 'key words' that trigger peoples interest, you will get better and better at it.

Don't lose heart, always go back to the research and the science when you are not sure what to do next.

And always remember that ALL companies are able and willing to try some google advertising if you can promise them one thing ROI.

if you can show a positive ROI, your customers will be happy.

The great thing about ad words is that the risk is very low, they can start with $500 a month and grow from there.

Feel free to get in touch if you need more ideas and amo.

    good luck,

    Matthew
