Remodeling Company - Billboard Help!

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I own a small remodeling company. I have leased a 10 x 22 1/2 billboard on a major highway in our city. I am working with a company to design my billboard, but I am just not getting what I am looking for. We specialize in bathroom and basement remodels. I am having a difficult time with the design with incorporating a message, our logo and getting the message out there that we specialize in bathrooms and basements. Can anyone help with a message and any thoughts for the image on teh billboard?

    A couple of thoughts...

A 10 x 22 isn't that large,(half size) and if it's on a highway, traffic is moving pretty fast. You have, on average, less than 5 seconds to get a message communicated.

Keep total reading material to 7 words or less if possible. This includes your name and your phone number or website.

Remember a billboard's real purpose... to implant a bit of info in a brain through repetition (seeing it every day) so when someone needs what you offer, they will think of you.

Remember that a billboard is the opposite of a brochure.
Keep it as simple as you can...
Big Photo of ugly basement (or bathroom). Big photo of newly lovely basement. Big arrow to show movement from one state to the other. Your logo on arrow (if it's a clean, simple one that blows up well).
Add phone &/or web address and words "We do bathrooms, too!" If you use bathroom photos, use "basements" in the text.

    Best of luck:)

If you have a catchy/easy to remember phone number, that might work.

Keep in mind that people still need to see it 7-10 times before they even notice it. I used to think that figure was just bunk. Then I noticed a sign from a friend's resort. I asked her about her new sign and she said it had been there 3 years. I had passed it probably 20 times and never noticed it.

I agree with Randall. A billboard may (or may not) be seen, but not necessarily by people who have any interest in remodeling their bathrooms.

You're better off either with direct mail, or partnering with complementary local businesses.

Not to mention that recent research shows that billboards are way down on the list of sources that people trust.

Instead of showing an attractive bathroom or basement, show an attractive smiling person in the room. As others have mentioned, you're trying to instantly convey the feeling of the result of your work, not a business card for your business. Also - don't try to say you do both in the same ad - no time. Pick one or the other, and focus your message. Perhaps change it from week-to-week (if you have the budget).

Or if you're looking for something a bit edgier, show the silhouette of an attractive person showering (in a beautiful enclosure) with the words "Want To See More?" with your phone #/business name.
