Grand Opening Ideas

OK - here it goes- I need help! I'm also looking for creative ideas for a grand opening for a home accent and import retail store. I was thinking of offering your usual sign up for a free give-away and also offering light snack food, music and refreshments for several hours that day, along with a 10-15% discount on any purchases.

I'm looking for info on how I can lure people in and other promotional ideas on how I can keep them coming back. Any ideas?

    Have a photo contest for "room that needs the most help". Locals submit photos (you display on your website, for example) with a brief statement on why the room needs a makeover. Public votes. Winner gets up to $X of your products/services.

    Both of the above are great suggestions; perhaps, adding to Phil's line of thinking, considering offering an item of the week/month with a deep discount and display it prominently in the front window and in a local pub small ad, with little copy and bold outline. Let the bargain speak for itself. If the ad is placed in the same position each week/month, buyers will notice. Perhaps, giving an additional % off for mentioning that they saw the ad will help you ultimately achieve your goal.
