Advice For Non-profit Trying To Recruit Docs.

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I work for a non-profit that is overseeing a state grant. We are trying to get primary care doctors to do a free training that provides free screening tools and free Part IV Maintenance of Certification.

What we don’t have is the swag or food to leave at offices, or the ability to even go practice to practice. Once we’ve gotten in the door, our program has been well received. The problem is clearing the moat to get to that door. Other than working with the state physician chapters, what advice would you offer?

Thanks in advance for your time.

I realize food is a draw but you can't let that keep you from going to the office. And, if food was a guaranteed way to make a sale, HS kids would be doing that job.

I'm assuming you have SOME budget for a decent brochure. Also assuming you have phone service. Both of those are critical.

    Visit. Call. Call. Call.

I work in a hospital and we have a physicians clinic associated with our organization. Your approach would be setting up an appointment with the clinic manager - not a doc. If you can show (convince) her the benefits of participation for the Docs she'll make sure you get an audience. Your approach should be to get in front of the "gatekeeper" for each practice.

    Good Luck!

If you are not able to go door-to-door, you have both hands tied behind your back. What if you just pick 10 target doctors and visit 2 each day for a week? Do you have the ability to do that?

Then next week do 10 more. Etc.

Do you have connections to a local group of doctors that you could help? If not, start as Michael suggests - meet them. Once you do have a group, enlist the doctors' help - you're offering a valuable free service with no strings attached (right?) - ask them for warm referrals to other physicians that would benefit from your service.
