Consumer Priority Service - How Many Years Of Cove

Consumer Priority Service - How many years of coverage should I buy for my Apple Mac Book Pro 17"?

I recently purchased a Apple Mac Book Pro 17" online. It costs me $2299 plus shipping. If thr unit should have an issue over the next few years I want to be fully covered so I will be purchasing the Consumer Priority Service extended warranty as well. The online dealer offers a 2 year or a 3 year for about $100 more, Is it worth the extra money for the 3 year warranty?

    absolutely..

My organization uses dells, and we always buy a 3 year with a one year extension. Generally, by the end of 3 years there are a few issues - keyboard wear, cd player wear... they replace these for free. We enter into year 4 with a great computer ... that can be passed to Junior Employees (or given to family members).

    Dear jaffsmith23,

You may just want to stick with AppleCare.

From the Apple website there's this:

For up to three years from your computer's original purchase date, the AppleCare Protection Plan gives you direct, one-stop access to Apple's award-winning telephone technical support for questions about Apple hardware, Mac OS X, iLife, and iWork. And you get global repair coverage for your Mac — both parts and labor — through convenient service options.

AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro - is $349.

The "extra warranty" from the dealer is an up sell on which they make a ton of profit, and from which they'll try their best to get out of if you have a problem. I know because a certain well known, online Apple reseller screwed me out of my warranty several years ago over some BS term where they claimed certain elements were not covered (like the hard drive).

You can sign up for AppleCare up to a year after you buy the machine, but check the fine print on Apple's website to be certain before you buy.

    I hope this helps.
