Celebrating Nursing Home's 40th Year In Business

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
I am Marking/Admissions Coordinator of a 99 bed LTC Nursing Home. Our services include skilled and intermediate care, a short term rehab to home therapy program and we have recently expanded and opened an 18 bed Special Care Unit for our Dementia Residents. We have a lot of long term staff including our Administrator who has been in her position for 31 years as well as many Nurses, C.N.A.'s and key staff that have been with us from 5 to 27 years. July 20, 2010 we will be celebrating our 40th year in business. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have to help make this a spectacular and memorable event. I have many thoughts running through my head, I would love to plan a huge celebration the day of which includes live entertainment, a speach by our Administrator and Mayor, serving cake, a balloon launch, give away drawings for staff, residents and those in attendance. I will advertise through the Newspaper, Radio and possibly our local news. I would love to hear your thoughts on suggestions for this event. Also, in addition to celebrating the day of I am considering a celebration day each month of 2010 or even a celebration day for each quarter. Any idea's would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

This is one of those things where the focus tends to be on how long a business has been in place...forgetting the mission.

If you're doing LTC, you know a lot about your residence and I would encourage you to make it more of a family party. Do you have a lot if veterans? Honor them. Lots of teachers? Do a school theme. Don't make the goal about visibility as much as about the residence. If it's meaningful to them, it'll likely bring out of town family and more press than you can handle.

Because you have long-term staff, you might want to take the money and instead of having a party, gift it in the form of a weekend away at a hotel, or a spa treatment, or something else to show how much you value your staff.

Or, bring in people to take care of the caregivers. Chair massage. Dinner gift certificates. Bottles of wine.

Or, each month honor a staff member deeply. Have people write notes saying how the honoree matters in their life. Give them the royal treatment. Showcase them (and their stories) on your website and newsletter.
