Marketing To Military

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
I manage a new grill & bar that is part of a golf course located just outside of an air force base. Our market is local businesses, the base and our golf customers. The golf course is a 9-hole exec. course with a lighted driving range and miini-golf. Our dining area is a great space for meeting, parties and other events. We want the restaurant to help support the golf course through the winter months. How do we reach contractors, military and families on the base? Any suggestions for marketing our banquet/meeting space?

    Dear dana.gardiner,

Your first order of business is to arrange an introductory meeting
with the Community Liaison Officer of the base.

In that meeting you ask lots of questions and you let this person do
the talking: you need to know what they need in terms of your services, what they don't need, what's permitted by Air Force code, and what's off limits.

The Community Liaison Officer will then pass your outline of services
to the Base Commander and he or she will then decide what you can or cannot do on the base, for the base personnel, and in the name of the United States Air Force.

When you set foot on the base, suddenly, you're not in Kansas any more. On any military installation the regular rules of the civilian world do not apply, and on the base, the base Commander is head honcho.

You might also want to contact the Air Force Services Agency https://www.afsv.af.mil/ and the USO www.uso.org/ - to see what they advise or need.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck to you.

    Hi,

The best way of marketing would be to go out a full fledged Direct Marketing Campaign in the surrounding area. At the Same time, seeking permission with the military official & displaying the promotion about your services in the common hall.

    Hi, Dana

First of all I would suggest doing something for golf community: discounts for winners, complimentary drinks for losers. Make a special Golf drink (conduct a survey what golfers like to drink more - and give them something theirs). Set up a "point" program where your clients could accumulate points and get a free game or win a special golf prize. There's a lot that can be done there.

    Whatever happens -
    Good Luck!

You possibly could use the soldiers themselves to promote it for you. If you have drink or food specials at times for people with military IDs, the word will be spread through the base for you by the soldiers themselves. Run these at the times that are slow for you as a way for you to build up business at those times. You will need to set these times in advance and maybe use some of he methods talked above to advertise the first ones.

At your location, make sure you have a sign that talks about how the area can be reserved for meeting, parties and other events.
