Help And Critique On My Blog

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Ugh, I know... another kid who wants some vindication that the hours he's spent on this blog is of some value...

Nevertheless, I would like you to look at my blog for two reasons. One, the small business that is featured on my home page should be featured under the Small Business of the Week page... though, I cannot figure out how to get it over there. I'm starting to think it's not possible. If you are any good at this stuff I would appreciate help.

Second, any suggestions for topics based around a young wanna-be marketer and a critique of posts already made would be fantastic.

    Dear milsher7,

Your site loaded. Then I had to close it because it froze.
Then it would not load. This does not bode well.

Couldn't read the other posts you mentioned, so I can't really
    judge.

But to pull in readers, consider asking yourself the following questions:

How much other content do you have?
    Who's it aimed at?
Why should they read your opinion?
    What's your background?
What new aspects do you bring to marketing?

I'm not trying to put you down here: I think what you're building has promise. Consider adding video, audio, and adding more links to other, heavier traffic laden sites and see what that does for you.

Also consider revising your notion of business. Might it be better to focus on a business niche? Narrow and deep tends to have more pull than an inch deep and a mile wide.

I hope this helps. Go get 'em and good luck to you!

Get rid of the ad that's on your About Me page. It distracts from focusing on you.

In your banner, tell me who you're trying to talk to ... and why. Give me a reason to want to keep reading, not just today, but on an ongoing basis.

    Hi, milsher7

Well, since it's not an actual site, as I understand, it's build using an existing template, there is not much to discuss.

I can only tell you that the left column is a particular size and when you place wider images in it, the right column content hovers over the image and it makes it badly readable.

Your choice of eye-hurting cyan for the background is unacceptable for blog: people come to you to read, it's already not very easy to read from the monitor, and you only make it harder for them, should be the opposite.

    I hope this helps.

    Whatever happens
    Good Luck!
