Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi there,

I'm looking to capture a target audience with a new item that is very valuable within the Olympics.

I want to do a COOL/FUN unveilling- any ideas?

I would love to be able to suggest an idea/two because this leans toward my specialty of sports publicity, but I'd have to know what the item is.

    Dear karilywood,

Stop! What are you unveiling, to whom, and how does whatever the thing is connect to your prospective audience?

You also need to take a step back here and consider the following: connecting your "thingy" to the Olympics is dicey because there are extremely strict rules about the use and abuse of the Olympic logo.

    https://business.london-2012.co.uk/Use-of-Olympic-marks/

The logo usage guidelines are there to protect the brand and to prevent unauthorized use of the logo for gain from companies and individuals that are not directly linked to or part of the games, and these rules apply to the summer and winter games.

Tread extremely carefully and if you're in ANY doubt, do nothing.

Look at it this way: were a smaller company to come along and try and link their product launch to you without your permission or buy in, what would you do? Might you be calling your lawyer?

The Olympic committee take the same view.

Before you do ANYTHING else, get solid legal advice from someone with licensing and intellectual copyright experience.

Tempted to skip this step? Don't.
