Seeking Publicity For Interior Designer

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
I have a client who is a talented artist/muralist/photographer as well as an interior designer. I would like to get some spreads done on her in local magazines. What would be the best way to go about this - a traditional press release or to actually write the article myself and submit it? Or call them and pitch the story so one of their own writers could write it?

Thanks!

I think a quick attention-grabbing release along with photos (do not forget the photos in this case!) would attract interest.

You may want to place a quick call and ask if you may forward information.

Another way to attract attention is to create a Facebook Fan page where you can invite the media. With this, you can show off the art without threat of attachments (which many media won't open unless they request them).

    Phil rocks!

The only crumbs I can add would be to say that you should encourage a face-face meeting between the client and the editor. The more the editor invests, the more likely your story will not get axed if space gets tight. If you have a charismatic client (especially with your coaching) then it can make a big difference.

One more piece of advice. Research the heck out of the editor you are pitching and read their recent stories. This will let your learn their style so that you can package up your pitch in a manner that is most pleasing to them and thus increase your odds of delivering a pitch that will resonate.

    Best of Luck, JohnnyB.
