Graphic Design Or Seo Or Computer Science

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I handle all the marketing and advertising for multiple businesses in my town. I am intrigued by this business and love trying new things. I have lots of ideas on how create landing pages, pack them full of SEO and create campaigns around them. My problem is that I don't know how to build the sites. I know how they should look and where to put calls to actions. I also know how to advertise them. I just don't know how to build them. Should I go back to school for something like this? Should I go graphic design? SEO? Coding? I want to make myself the ultimate package. Any ideas?

If you give an indication of where you are based someone here may be able to refer an expert resource to you.

You could also try posting as a project - go to the menu to the right of this screen, under the orange heading 'Hire an Expert' and click the 'Post a Project' link.

My suggestion is to start with a content management system (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_content_management_systems). Let someone who's good with graphics and layout create the skeleton and then you can have your way with the content.

    Some thoughts:
IF you want to be able to do it yourself (I often do this mainly because it gives one more knowledge for any number of differrent reasons) and IF you have the time to add to what is probably an already stretched schedule, consider taking a local adult-ed/night course of limited run. You certainly won't learn everything but you will likely learn enough to be able to even better serve your customers by knowing what to question when the experts "do their thing". And that, I think, is where you want to be as the marketing/advertising person they turn to.

    Best of luck

    Dear briancanady,

Unless you have three to four years to set aside to train to become
    a graphic designer, outsource it.

To find the kinds of people you need to help you, go to sites like www.rentacoder.com, www.guru.com, and www.elance.com.

    I hope this helps.
