Help Introducing My Business

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi,
I am about to open a small construction company that for now will be run from our home. I am planning a launch campaign to include some postcards and emails. We want to let people know we are now in business for ourselves, but calling it a "Grand Opening" doesn't seem accurate, since we are not technically opening doors to a storefront type business. How else can I phrase this announcement? Thank you, Gina

    Consider simply:

    Introducing...

    XYZ Construction Company

Thank you so much, I really do like the simple "Introducing" or even "Announcing" idea!

    Gina,
I'm not real big on grand openings unless you're moving...or a professional. Not that you're not professional but I'm thinking medical/legal etc.

There's something about being new that isn't so appealing in the construction business.

    Just my opinion.

"We want to let people know we are now in business for ourselves..."

means you are talking to your exisitng contacts, and telling them that its a new leaf in your...

Can't you say something like 'We are building new' or 'A fresh approach to building' to cue in?

    ThnQ,

All great points, as while we are newly in business, we are definitely not new TO the business.
The responses are making me think perhaps I need to send something worded one way to our friends, family, and associates, and worded another way as part of our general launch advertising.
    Excellent!

I'm not sure your business launch is as important for your prospective clients as you might think. Yes, show them a portfolio of your work. Yes, tell them about what you specialize in. Yes, share testimonials of people who love what you've done. But your new status actually puts a question in people's mind: "What were they doing before?" rather than the question "I wonder how much it'd cost to redo my home to look like that?".

It sounds like you have been working for others and now decided to go it on your own. If this is the case ensure that in your marketing material that you refer to your "years of experience". If you can, get references from past clients & images of your work.

Additionally you could include some offer, e.g. free upgraded appliances etc but this would depend on the type of market you are trying to attract.

Good Luck with the new venture

I agree that focusing on your years of experience would be best. Also, do you have any customer testimonials that you can use from previous experience or current? People listen more to a 3rd party recommendation than your ads. Are you a member of any business or industry associations? You could include those logos as well. Build up your opt-in email list and use a service like MailChimp (free up to 500 emails) and stay in touch with customers and prospects as you build your business. Is there a free seminar you can offer for home projects? That would position you as an expert and you are offering something of value.
