Feedback Requested For New Music Download Website

Posted by melissa on 125 Points
Hello,
I am working with a client that had designed this site about a year ago, and we are putting our ideas together for a complete redesign.

Looking for feedback on the site from 2 perspectives - 1) an artist or producer looking to use this medium to get their music heard; and 2) a listener looking for new music to sample and download.

The site is geared toward an audience of young artists and listeners, and the genres they are currently focusing on are hiphop, reggae, and r&b; although eventually they are looking to expand to a wider audience (rock, metal, punk, etc.)

Please be specific and open. Thanks for your help.
The site is https://www.scestations.com

The biggest problem with finding new music is the time it takes to wade through the catalog. Make it easy for people to find music, using either a questionnaire, software heuristics like Pandora.com does, or recommendations like Amazon.com does (if you like this, you'll probably like this...).

It's easy to distribute music these days (free iTunes downloads, for example). The trick is to create demand for the music, not simply waiting around for someone to stumble upon it.

Karen, thank you for your response here. Any thoughts on the visual design of the page, and how it might be perceived by the intended audience (ie: urban listeners and artists?).

Beyond removing the clutter and cleaning up many of the individual sections, we will be focusing on a complete redesign and do not currently feel that this site is representative of it's core customers (branding and overall design/layout).

    Thank you,
    Melissa
