Choosing Between Programs

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I was just recently accepted into two different Masters programs at the same school. One is Public Relations and the other is Advertising (the business side, not the creating side). I am having a hard time deciding between the two, both are wonderful programs with very challenging course loads and I would be happy with either one.

I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar situation or what others though would be my best bet?

I would love any comments and thoughts about this.

If you are not sure which course you should go for, you can search on Internet for currently open positions in this two specific areas and read carefully job descriptions. By doing this, you will find out what duties and tasks are related to this jobs and than decide, what would you like to do in the future.

Since you're potentially interested in both, compare the specific course differences, and consider taking a class or two from the other's list to develop an informal "minor" in it. At worst, you'll learn more. At best, you'll have a broader perspective from which to help people once you graduate.

I think it depends on what YOU want to do. If you really want a career in PR, then you should pursue that in school. If you want a career in advertising, you should pursue that.

For us to make suggestions for you would only reflect our own preferences, and OUR preferences are not relevant. This is about YOU. And you will have to make that decision.

I would add that you can start now to trust your intuition. That's what makes for great marketers, and this is a perfect example of where/how you can use it. This isn't a situation that lends itself to listing and comparing the pros and cons of each option. Go with your gut.
