Season Opener

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
We are a boating business going into our 3rd season and still have the problem with our community not knowing we are here. We have held many events and have found good stuff and bad stuff. Advertising in the newspaper had a great response but was expensive and mainly had people come to our events just for the food and not really interested in our business as a whole. We are looking for ideas outside the box to draw people in for our season opening sale but don't want to spend a ton of money. Maybe a theme, and someway to draw the right kind of people and how to find the people that don't know us. Thanks!!

    Kristin,
Not sure what boats you're selling but have you tried following TallShips?

There are yacht clubs in every state. They trade in their boats periodically, or at least know people who have an interest. Clearly you're not targeting free food eaters.

If people come for the free food, they are also learning about your business. So they could potentially be customers in the future (if the people who come are boaters).

Questions you probably know, but if not, need to answer - Who are your target customers? And what events do they do? Then try to make an event that involves them specifically. If it is sailors - why not set up a sailing race. Or for yachters, don't they often do poker runs? If fishing, how about setting up a fishing contest. Not talking about sponsoring a big event, but trying to work an event based out of your location (if you are on the water).

A bike shop I work with does weekly rides from their shop. A kayak shop I do work with does social paddles. Movie nights could also work, if you are not on the water.
