New Ideas On Promoting Visual Art.

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
I'm a Visual Artist, making paintings and sculptures. I need to find a better way to promote my work. The ultimate goals are to get more people to see the work and to sell more of the work. The classic methods involving galleries is too slow. It's important that the artwork keeps it's integrity.

Any new ideas are welcome.

"art keeps its integrity" is exactly why there are starving artists.

You need to stop working less passively for collectors. Lose the pride. Go sell something. You know that.

Galleries are slow for you because your sales are reliant on the galleries ability to draw in the right buyers.

So who are your buyers? And how can you be lazar sharp in guerrilla marketing to them?

Collecting art is a passion of mine. And when I see mass non-art producers like 3 of today's emails of Thomas Kincaid- I want to puke. So setting aside "integrity" there are still lessons to be learned. The man has built his brand. Like it or not, the man has built his brand.

I was invited to a gallery opening featuring an artist-- his mix was bizarre-- he did cowboy art, architectural renderings and off the chart contemporary. It is rare to attend a show with such a wide range. Technically beautiful. So I asked him why.

He told me, I just want to create art that sells. While accurate, it's hard for a collector to latch on. He was a very gifted artist-- the boy could draw. But I'm not sure that is the right strategy. He became generic. A painter of "everything"??

I have 3 Peter Max pieces-- they are consistant. 3 Dali's -- consistant. Have 3 Curtis's-- consistant. I knew the Gorman I was buying was consistant. I could go on. When I buy a piece I want a piece that represents the artist. It represents the artist cause it reflects the brand.

Point is-- build the brand. Build your following, know who your client is-- and again-- be lazar sharp in marketing to them.

    Good Luck and Best Wishes

    Hope that helps

    And ...

Focus on who's purchased your art already. Who are they? Where are they located? Why did the purchase it? How did it transform their life? Once you've understood your audience, find out how to find more people like them.
