Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I read your comments of how you would promote someone's 50th anniversary for his diamond store and really liked your ideas!
I wanted your suggestions as to how you would promote the 60th anniversary of a self-help book that has sold millions of copies; is translated into 50 languages; has been on 116 best seller lists and is available in 160 countries.

I would create a campaign around how the contents of the book 60-years-ago may be still relevant today, and why.

Are some of the tips provided then seem so outlandish now that they'd make for a good then-and-now tips list?

Publicize the 60th anniversary via traditional and social media. Just always remember to promote not the book, but the contents and why it helped people then and why it does, now. Few books can make that claim to fame.

How are you promoting it at age 59? Is it working? (It sounds like something is working!)

I'm never quite sure why "anniversary" promotions make sense. I would promote the book the same way you've been promoting it. It has worked for you, and there's nothing so different about the fact that the book was first published 60 years ago than the fact that it was published 59 years ago.

You have a winning formula. Don't mess it up.

Thanks! These are great answers. I made note of them all and will follow through with them.
Gail -- I agree on promoting the content and not the book. Thanks for the reminder. You suggested I use social media. Can you please give more information as to which sites and any successful ideas for social media?

Karen -- I do have something I can give the public for free--both downloadable or something I can mail to them. Great idea.

Mgoodman -- Thanks for your comment. Yes, I want to continue what we're doing and even add to it.

Let me recommend John Kremer's book, 1001 Ways to Market Your Books. It's available on Amazon.com and in most major bookstores in the United States.

Add additional 60 points...either as an add on booklet and promote...or just say No. 1 bookseller no going 60. now comes with 60 more updated points, etc.

Thank you very much to all who took the time to answer my questions. I've already started implementing what you've gone over.

Karen -- I'm taking your idea of an extra addition for the book and sent out a survey to our email subscribers to find out what they would want.

mgoodman -- I'm going to buy the book you suggested so I can do more with social media as Gail suggested.

RJ -- I like your idea of No. 1 Best Seller Now going 60.

Thanks again to all. This is the first time I've used this site, but I'm definitely coming back.

    Nicole --

As far as implementing a social media strategy, use Twitter and Facebook, two of the most frequently used tools. Implement keywords into your posts and connect to links associated with your book.

Please let me know if I can help further.

    Hi Gail,

I'm unfortunately a social media neophyte. Would you be able to refer me to an good example where someone implemented keywords into their posts and connected them to links with their book?
