Guerrilla Marketing - Promo Idea

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Thinking of placing small trinkets (mini skate boards and small Frisbees) at local parks with promotional ads attached to them. Looking to find a new way to hit our target market of young males, by using the areas they are known to go and hang out at.

Looking for call to action ideas, % off or buy one get one, just seem so ordinary, does anyone have other ideas?

Background: Our retail store sells video games and Frisbees for the sport of disc golf.

I don't have experience with this target group, but maybe put a code on each of the pieces, or a keyword, have them remember the keyword, come into the store to enter a raffle for free gear, and at the same time reveal the % off related to the keyword - each keyword has a different %, could range from low to high (i.e. 10 - 40% off).

Or, if you have F'book or Twitter accounts, work the keyword into something on your pages for discounts, etc.

"Text the saving code to your friends"

If you have like 100, bring them and tell them they can text the code to their friends. They don't need to be at the park.

Be careful that the local park authority doesn't have rules about leaving commercial material in public spaces. They could see this as a violation of some ordinance and you'll end up with negative publicity (and perhaps a fine).

I also don't see a need to offer a price discount. It's not like prices for this stuff are seen as too high. Besides, if you can sell stuff at full price, you will have more margin available for marketing and can stop having to limit your thinking because your budget is so tight.

for your disc golf customers you can offer 10-30% the catch is they have to throw a disc into the hole or whatever it's called. Set yourself up on a course hole and mark 3 distances from easy to hard. the easier shot will be for 10% off and the hardest shot will be for 30% off. since this will create alot of traffic you will probably have to put a minimum price they will have to spend to get the discount.

For gamers I like the texting idea. But maybe you offer a crazy deal if the customer who found the access code texts his friends to come in and show the code so he can get a game half off or something, but you will have 6 new customers.

How about-- take a pix of you at the park and redeem.

there are many co's that send off a toy and people send pix of where they took them. this is a spin on that.

You can then do on your website, all the people finding the minis. Put the pix in other advertising. Everyone wants their 15 seconds of fame.

I envision a scavengar hunt for these. Very cool idea. Model it after a traditional Easter Egg Hunt

BTW, Call to action means just that. You have to inspire someone to call today-- vs a month from now. Cause a month from now, they won't even remember the mini.

Create Geocaches (https://www.geocaching.com/) for the small trinkets, and make people work to find 'em.

Stickers, Stickers, Stickers!!! They are cheap, and kids love them. And they don't end up at the bottom of a drawer. Make sure that they are custom die cut, cool looking and only have your company name on them very small. Nobody wants to advertise for you, but if you come up with something that makes them feel cool of having it, you hit a home run. All of that other stuff will wind up in the trash.

Oh, and you COULD print a coupon on the back as well!

    Good luck!

could you do something with video? I have seen at least half a dozen wild basketball track shots, but I can't remember ever seeing a disc golf video...would be possible to offer some prizes or other incentives for the best shot? Could you videotape an event and post some of the best shots, hoping that those videotaped (would you need them to sign a release?) Would e-mail the link to all their buddies?

The game is a blast, by the way.
