How To Promote 125 Year Anniversary Of A Non Profi

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
i work for a non profit that is celebrating 125 years of service to the community. What would you suggest as a way of using our longevity and the great work we have done as a fundraiser? Would like to celebrate this but have very little money to do it with. Suggestions are welcome!

Vicki, I have a soft spot in my heart for the work you do ... not only because I'm a native Hoosier (from the opposite end of the state), but also because it's important work and I know it's not easy to support the organization's activities at a time when the need is greatest.

That said, I think your best bet is to focus on the needs you satisfy and the reasons why the community should support your organization, not so much on the fact that you've been around a long time.

In truth, your pitch isn't much different now than it was when the organization was 122 or 123 years old. The 125th anniversary is just another milestone on the road ... and more important to you (the staff) than to the folks in the community.

The reasons the community should support you don't really have anything to do with how long the organization has been around, and those needs will still be here when you're 126 or 127 years old.

Focus on telling your story and on explaining to the community why it is it THEIR best interest to have you around and why THEY are better off because you are doing your important work. There's no need to remind them that you're an old organization that's still hanging in there. That just gets in the way of your real story.

Good luck. Hope this helps some.

Celebrate the people you've helped. Highlight their stories of success. Photos of "where they are now". That's likely to continue to place your organization securely in the hearts of those that care about your message.

125 years is nothing to sneeze at! That means your non-profit co/agency has weathered how many society ups n downs, and storms aplenty? Latch onto some of the past trends/fashions/'buzzwords and lace them thruoghout your campaign. Consider a community event where everyone in the community is encouraged to 'dress the era--or a wacky hair day. The local press (newspaper/television/radio) could have fun that with that! Incude the local schools and business--invite everyone to be part of your celebration!

    Best of luck,
