10 Year Anniversary

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I am the Marketing Cordinator for an Marketing and Advertising company that started 10 years ago with about 5 people and now employs around 70 people. We have some of the biggest companies such as IBM South Africa as clients. We need to celebrate our anniversary and we are planning on inviting clients as well so the number might go up to 150 people. Obviously a lot of creativity and awesomeness is expected since we are already in advertising. I know it is important to use this as a promotional event as well so i need ideas around this. I am not sure what the best way is, we are celebrating in August and winter would have gone so please send any ideas to help me! Someone suggested a Da Vinci Code theme but i have no clue how to go around it, i need to sit with my boss to present at least 2 diff ideas. HELP!

I think the niche of your marketing company would come into play. If not, you've got a pick of dozens of themes. Does your company have a light-hearted reputation or is it all-business? The answer to that might help you determine just how creative you get and with what decor, etc.

Why do you need to celebrate your anniversary? Do your clients care? Do your prospective clients care? Does the press care?

How about instead of paying money to host a party, do something noteworthy. Team up with an existing nonprofit for a day - deliver food, build a house, visit the shut-ins - and invite your clients to join you in making the world a better place. It's a win all-around, and take the money you'd spend on your party and donate most of it to the non-profit, reserving some for sandwiches & drink for the volunteers. By making a difference, you'll be remembered for all the right reasons (and build teamwork, and get noticed...).

Along the lines of what Jay and Karen are saying is turning it away from your company touting itself. If it's not a community-program then creating a client celebration is right on. Something simple so they don't think their fees paid for an extravagant event.

I've seen a party where clients were invited to cook a dinner with senior staff at a local culinary school. Then, maybe the next day you invite your employees and customers to an awards event and make up silly categories for clients to win in. Maybe the theme is cooking or creating together for the next 10 years. It's about collaboration with clients.

I have no doubt that the above advice would be best for your Company, but let's be careful... if your boss has specifically asked you to come up with a couple of ideas for an anniversary, it is my opinion that you should do what your boss has requested and suggest a few ideas... and also suggest other options.

As said above, the idea of anniversary celebrations has come up many times on this forum. You can find the previous questions in two ways: you can select the "search previous questions" functions at the upper right, and key in a term such as "anniversary”...

Or you can use Google to search the site, giving you more search options, starting with a Google search on:

    anniversary site:www.marketingprofs.com/ea

I just did a Google search and got 181 hits... I'm sure most of them are not appropriate for your kinds of business, but I'm sure you can find some good advice and ideas about anniversaries in general. Good luck.
