Marketing A New Fashion Line Online

Posted by Anonymous on 100 Points
Hello There

My name is Feritta. I am a recording artist who is about to release my debut album "A Journey Begins". My music is a fusion of Pop/R&B with Indian and ethnic influences and I am in the process of setting up a merchandising line of east/west (fusion) tunics and fashion accessories to compliment my "Feritta" brand.

I am new to all of this and was wondering if any of you out there could offer me some tips or advice as to how to get the product(s) in front of consumers via the internet (as I will have the clothing and accessories for sale via the internet) and how to translate them into sales.

As I said I am in the initial stages but I believe it's important to start formulating a strategy from now.

My target market is predominately 18-40 year olds who enjoy a bit of glamour, like to standing out and have a zest for life.

You can find out more about my music (which is a huge influence on my designs) at www.feritta.com.au or www.reverbnation.com/feritta.

Many thanks in advance,

Feritta

Why not use your music videos to promote your fashion? Wear things you sell, and link from your videos (and music website) to your merchandise website.

With respect, Z_Diaz00 should answer the question rather than touting for work.

Ferrita, if you manage to come up with a comprehensive answer which works. Don’t forget to inform Terry Hands who bought EMI last year and has lost money ever since. Our Tel went from hedge funds to pissing off rock-stars and A&R men in about 2 days and it didn’t work.

The first thing is therefore to note that all the old ways of promoting new talent don’t work. Apart perhaps for sending a well presented CD of your works to “Someone who matters” like a producer or a DJ or whatever. Since the advent of email, everyone emails all their samples so people who matter get thousands. They then delete them all, especially those with 100 other people in the “to” field.

Get your work out into open space with an account like SoundCloud. Then you can upload some quality and link all your promo stuff to the site. Do YouTube and FaceBook and BeBo and so on but always ensure that there’s some high quality stuff to download.

You identify your potential audience very clearly. How are they going to identify you though? You have to be quite clever to make your marketing effective to the people you want to see it and that requires identifying the demographic and chasing them through all the social sites. You probably can’t afford to advertise, so sweat is the alternative. If just one socially influential person likes you they could be the trigger for your works to go viral – it is unlikely but unless you try, it won’t happen and try you must.

Good luck – I’ve just accidentally introduced a new-age artist to a bunch of shaven headed, muscle bound, work out fit, ex-convicts, hell’s angels, corrupt policemen, armed forces and the like who have just turned their lives around. They think that she and her music is “Purdy” and have all bought into it. She is ecstatic as the ladies in Laura Ashley Frocks weren’t buying enough!
