It would help if we knew the expected use of results. What action would be taken based on the findings from the research?

Also, do you want to include attitudes in your perception study? Or do you just want to know about objectively measurable perceptions?

For this study, you need to develop a mental map of customers that consists all kind of associations (Positive/negative) of customers towards soft drinks.

You are going to research the market or may be for some perticular brand research.
So while studying perceptions, you must know what are customers associations with soft drink brands. How they think about?, what are their top brands?, what benefits they wan to get through? What attributes they like most?, how they attract towards soft drink brands?, How much they use?, what type of customers they are?, from where they want to buy?, how much they talk about soft drinks?
These are the questions you ask from customers (Survey form)
And you also have to know about soft drinks market, top brands, growth rate, sales, customer relationship with brands.
After doing research both objectively and subjectively, you able to develop a mental map.
Mental map is customers associations/ perceptions about soft drink.
    Thanks
