Getting Suppliers To Stock Magazine

Posted by rum68br on 500 Points
We have recently published our first ever magazine and we are now wondering how we can promote our magazine to potential supplier.

The magazine is on children dolls and the business has been established for a while. We are using other methods to advertsie to the consumer (i.e. facebook and twitter where we have a following already) but we need ways of getting the trade on side.

Any help would be greatfully received.

Is the magazine subscription based? or given fee? I have a regional spots magazine that is given free through the suppliers, and have had no problem with the distribution.

You may want to read Starting and Running a Successful Newsletter or Magazine, by Cheryl Woodard. Covers the different methods of pricing and distributing magazines, among other things of interest.

Edit to my post to correct some sticky key problem I seemed to have:
Is the magazine subscription based? or given FREE? I have a regional SPORTS magazine that is given free through the suppliers, and have had no problem with the distribution.

When I said "supplier", I should have said retailers. Stores love to get fee magazines that would be desired by their customers. Upside is it make distribution and stocking easier. Downside is that it shuts off a revenue stream, so you have to find your money elsewhere (usually advertising).

Sorry about the quick pot before.

Peter, the good news is, your R key is working now. The bad news mate, is that your S key is now sticking :)

Sorry about the quick pot before.

Regarding the question at hand, I think its fair to say we need some more information here.

If the magazine is free as a promotion to potential customers, and you are just looking for "distribution points" consider Doctor's offices, as they are always looking for reading materials for waiting rooms. Dentists, Orthodontists, and Pediatricians would be excellent starting points.

    Kind regards,
