What Will Sell Well At A Women's Expo?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hello! My cake bakery has invested in a booth at our local Women's Expo this fall. We normally do only Bridal Expos, so this will be our first Women's Expo!

We are mainly there to get our name out, (to 20,000 attendees!) and get folks to remember to order their next cake with us. At the expo, we will attempt to sell prepackaged cookies and boxed cupcakes. We have ordered special logo magnets as giveaways.

But I am considering selling something additional to help offset costs. Something cake or cupcake related, but not edible. There is a chance that the venue will not allow us to sell food, so I am looking for a back-up plan... an alternative item to sell, to help offset our investment on the Expo, which will be close to $2000.

I've never been to a Women's Expo before. Have you? Who exhibits at them? Who attends? What IS a "Women's Expo?" Who sponsors such an event? Why? Are men excluded?

Well, mostly women attend. But it's not closed to others, and in fact, our local women's expo has a designated "Man Cave" with tvs, drinks, etc.! So men don't have to go thru the torture of so much girly stuff, but who have been sweet enough to attend with their woman.

There are inspirational women speakers, and booths that feature businesses that have a seriously woman-based target market. Such as spas, handbags, make-up, jewelry, home-party businesses, cookware, baby stuff, travel-related, mom-related, the list goes on and on. From the luxurious to the fun or trendy.

I've done these for a client and, frankly, don't find them useful in terms of generating future sales. It really depends on whether you have electronic access to the attendees or you have to convince them to hand over their email addresses.

Yesterday I was in Kentucky and saw these really cool bookmarks that were 3D images...much better than the ones we had as kids...of cupcakes. $5.99 at the airport. Probably $1 wholesale. Wish I paid attention to the manufacturer's name.

First find out what you can or cannot sell. Attendees are often just looking to fill their bags with free stuff.

Give out invitations to a cake tasting party that you'll host after expo. Consider co-marketing with other vendors (think: caterers, bartenders, etc.) to defray costs and increase attendance.

Hello, It will be a good idea if you bake some minicookies and put them in a nice plastics bags with the name of the business tying them with a ribbon and sell them as present for 'that special person'for instance... or maybe make minicakes with hearts forms, stars or animals figures for children and pack them in the same way.....or small boxes..

    good luck with expo!!

    Angy.
