How To Dispel Myth?

Posted by donli on 125 Points

It's encouraging that today's NYT published an article that very much supports the claims that our learning tool (Knowledge NoteBook) makes on effective learning, however, as it pointed out, many many students and possibly educators as well do not have a good idea of what constitutes effective learning... a thought was and still, is, their peers especially the ones at the very top would be convincing and then probably famed professors would be influential as well ... And yes, an exciting and short video at the home page would be splendid and a detailed one for the tutorials page would add much value... what do you think?

I think your positioning benefit is wrong. You're selling a tool instead of a benefit.

Your target audience wants the machine to run, and you're selling them a screwdriver. Why not instead sell them what they want -- a machine that runs the way it's supposed to. Let the fact that you use a screwdriver to deliver the benefit be your secret. No need to bother your target audience with that irrelevant detail.

Your benefit should be something like "Earning an A+ is actually easier than earning a C-. Let us show you how ..."

As for the NYT article, so what? Not sure what it has to do with what you're selling ... except that they both deal with learning strategies.

    Your ROCK! Thank you.

Should I place something like "Earning an A+ is actually easier than earning a C-. Let us show you how ..." on Home Page or on top of the Features and Benefits Page?
I feel this line should capture a user's attention immediately so, it seem home page is a better fit, yes?

If it were me, I'd make it the headline on the homepage. It's the ultimate benefit for your target audience, isn't it?

Yeah, you're right, done. Please take a look. Thank you.

The NYT article doesn't agree nor disagree that your product will help students. The question is, how do you see that your product fits in to the experts' recommendations? With Michael's fine headline, build (video) testimonials around it: work with students who are B- and see if using your product alone can turn them into A+ students.

    Jay,

Thanks for responding. On the NYT article, part of it stated in a gist that learning/reviewing related concepts instead of focusing on just one concept is actually more effective learning. Which validates the value of Knowledge NoteBook's Notes Association capability, that does exactly the related concepts view at the same time. This is a way to support our claim of a specific feature.

With regard to "build (video) testimonials around it", yep, it would be helpful, in the meantime, having a short and exciting video intro about Knowledge NoteBook and have it posted at youtube is a way to go...

    Cheers,

    Don

    @NuCoPro,

Marketing to college students (the direct beneficiaries of the tool).

I like your paragraph 2 and 3 a lot. And yes they are coming. Thank you.
