Increasing Sales

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am an assistant manager at a gas station/convenience store in a lower class area. We are having trouble boosting our sales for our fried foods. We have signs, multiple menus, and an audio ad that plays over our stereo station, but we are not seeing the results we want. If anyone has ideas they would be very appreciated, thank you.

There must be something totally wrong from customer experience point of view. Try to look it as being your own visitor and/or ask from few of your real customers.
Remember Product Price Promotion. They all must be in shape.
There should be someone testing your service but do they buy again? Is the general outlook lucrative or dirty? Smell is the strongest sense in these issues so if there is a mixture of old food and gasoline no promotion will help.
Think of going home and someone has been cooking a good meal. You'll be ready to pay to get some of that.
Usually moving the counter makes the difference. Only one or two feet can make a difference. Observe your customers how they move and what they see.
Give tastings outside; that's how you see if the stuff is good but something else is wrong.
Bag it. Make bundles with all essential in for take away for one, two or four.
Glad to help you with promotions if you check these initials first.

I would tell you to start with samples.....put coupons on windshields and on doors for free samples and also include a coupon on the flyer. Coupons work. Maybe do a buy 1 get 1 free - so you have 2 people experiencing your meals - and if the food is good, 2 people will tell many more! Try a "focus group" of ladies and gentlemen within the neighborhood - maybe 10 people - and have a sample tray and ask their opinion on taste and value for each item. This can be crucial. What you think taste good, may not be what your target market is looking for. So, to sum it all up, a 10 person focus group to give honest feedback on your menu and pass out flyers with coupons to encourage people to try the food!!! Best of luck to you!

Maybe you've sold all the fried food your customers want, and the way to grow your business is NOT to try to sell more of the stuff they've had enough of. Instead, you might try talking with the customers and find out what other foods they might want.

This sounds like a classic example of trying to sell what you HAVE instead of what the customer WANTS.
