Need Grand Opening Ideas Under 5000

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am opening an INDOOR Garden Centre in Calgary,AB Canada. Our main target market is MALE 18 - 45+, with the store selling the year round gardening concept as our climate is somewhat harsh.(we get hail in the middle of July....) This means we are typically selling hydroponic and greenhouse supplies (not actual greenhouses though) which may reproduce mother nature indoors. We are in a strip mall that is on a high traffic street although not directly fronted towards the road. We have pilon signage up high with a rental sign at street level and a well lit showroom in the store window. Our problem is getting people to know we exist......

Maybe you're trying to say you're marketing to men 18-45 for a time? If so, this could be an attractive audience, although Phil is right when he suggests that you're limiting yourself if this is the only marketing you plan to do.

That said, if you want to attract the young adult male, advertise and generate publicity to media they visit: social media, advertising in local men's publications (or local buys for national mags), radio (sports is a good spot) and independent business' publications.

On the publicity angle, add a fun element on how they can enjoy this kind of gardening and pitch morning shows. If you get a sports or other focus to it, maybe even pitch a show of that kind as a special segment.

The bottom line is to go to where your audience goes for information.

Are people who are looking not finding you -or- are you trying to educate your target audience to the joys of gardening?

Be careful - you're also targeting a wide age range (18-45) who no doubt have very different needs / budgets / lifestyles.

Thank you for the vague answers thus far.... I am really just looking for inspiring ideas on how to launch a grand opening for under 5000 dollars that will get noticed. As for radio, we can do that option but it will suck up all our ad budget in the first month that we allocated for the whole quarter. I am marketing to males primarily becuase my 15yrs experience has shown the 18-45+ male is the most frequent buyer of our products.

Consider selecting an 'item of the month, quarter or season,' something that is relevant to the season/locale to get people in the store and to help educate your audience about 1)who/where you are and 2) how the item could be benefical to them as a time, energy or cost saving device. Advertise via social media, press releases to local newspapers, publicaitons, and by developing a small, distinct advertisement strategically place. For example, same placement and style to make it memorable. Heavy border; minimal text; great (but short) attention getting headline. Consider offering a discount on the particular item if they bring in the ad or mention where they (customer) heard or saw it...

    Best of luck

Thank you to everyone who posted to my question. I would like to mention to Phil that almost anyone could design an effective ad campaign by throwing thousands upon thousands at it however, it is somewhat more challenging to that with a smaller budget which would require more creativity.... just thoughts. Thanks again!
