Dirt Track Stock Car Races - New Promotion

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
I work with a dirt stock car racing track and we are working on our promotional/marketing campaign for the 2011 season. I'm looking for help on innovative ideas and/or themes that would appeal to families, selling reasonably priced family entertainment. We already "sell" the die-hard race fans but need to attract people who don't normally come to races or have never been. I want to appeal to families with kids. Any ideas, suggestions, themes, etc would be appreciated.

I'm thinking along the lines of a bucket list. There are certain things people should try with their kids....at least once.

    Fishing
    Camping
    Dirt Track Racing
    Drive in Movie

    etc.

Ok my favorite idea is this. I would print/write it just like I have with the parenthesis ():

#1 - Good, Clean Family Fun. (Well, except for the dirt & dust).

#2 - Family Entertainment Powered by Race Track xyz.

Maybe have other "things" for the kids beyond watching the race such as food vendors with candied apples and snacks maybe a physical activity such as bounce houses, a mini track for the kids to "race" on, pony rides - these are all things you could make revenue on etc. If it's cold you could let the kids roast marshmellows or something like that.

You could offer a Kid Race that starts early and maybe let kids race their bikes on the track or soemthing like that. When kids ge involved they get interested...boy or girl. You need to start at a decent time since young kids are generally asleep by 10p and winding down by 9p. Maybe promote family fun from 7-9 each Friday night - promote it as food & fun for the entire family so they come out, eat, and get entertained. That will help maximize profits. If you do not have food vendors, maybe promote a "tail gateing" theme so people bring out their own food.
Hope those are ideas that ,if nothing else, inspire another idea for you!

Have you spoken with kids who have been to the races, and to their parents? What do they say? Were they bored, or did they find it exciting/interesting? What would have made their experience better/more fun?

I think it's time for a few focus groups (parents, kids). We could sit here for days trying to figure this out, and we'd probably miss the mark unless we happen to be parents with kids who have been to a dirt-track stock car race.

    Movie night ("Cars"?)
Provide rides for kids around the track with the pros.
