Info On In-theatre/big Screen Advertising

I'm interviewing for a possible position selling big screen spots and slides. Any thoughts or data anyone can share? postive or negative is ok.

    I'd ask what characteristics are common among those who have been successful at this, and what the most common reasons people give for leaving.

    Then make sure you talk to a few people who do this or have done it recently (and quit). It's important to know what you're getting into from people who are, or have been, there.

    Media sales is a tough business, but there are some very successful people who do it and love it. You just need to figure out if you're well suited for it. If you are, go for it. If you're not, it's not worth the pain and misery, not to mention a failure on your resume to explain to the next employer.

    This sounds like a tough assignment. Maybe focus on local events and lots of networking.

    I am not sure I'd agree with the earlier statement that there is "little or no supportable track record for effectiveness". Movie screen ad have been around for quite a while and can be effective at getting the word out about local businesses. I know one local sports shop that was very happy until the local theater changed from selling ads per theater (which the sports shop used to target his geography) to selling ads for bunches of theaters at once (not as geographical beneficial to the sports shop).

    One thing you could do is to go to a movie and note what companies are advertised there. Then talk to one or two of them to get a feel for how well they think the advertising is going.

    Overall, I suspect this job will be like mos advertising sales jobs (whether selling radio ads, magazine ads, etc.) - likely low or no base salary and a decent commission percentage on sales. If you are good at sales (personable, good at just picking up a phone and calling, etc.), this could be good. But if you don't take rejection well, then this (or any sales job) may not be good for you.
