Pr For Dirt Motorsports Racing

I am doing the PR for Dirt Motorsports Racing. They have about 2M fans now but want to extend their base by getting more mainstream media attention.

I need advice on how (what types of things would be newsworthy) and where I should send PR. Also, how often.

I'd also like to consider celebrity endorsement. Any ideas how to possibly get that?

    You initially asked about sending press releases, but it is hard t imagine how you can do much just by doing this. I think to grow the sport, you will need to do a bit more.

    It seems a lot of niche sports have broken out through one of their athletes doing something amazing. They then benefit, but this also carries the sport also. Lance Armstrong, Tony Hawk, and even Tiger Woods all come to mind (golf was already big, but Tiger definitely broadened the appeal).

    What does that mean for MX? Some ideas:
    - If you have any influence in things like licensing, see if they can do more with areas that could expand the interest. Things like licensing out to video game makers. Make it easier for the athletes to be able to do it (sometimes the sports authority puts limitations on this type of stuff).
    - Work with areas that add to your publicity, such as the extreme video folks, the made for TV events like X-games, getting MX teams on TV shows, etc.
