Need Online Poll Software

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
We wish to place a simple A or B vote on our website and advertise it on Facebook to create interest in our site. This is simply a 'do you like yellow or green better?" type of question, with no consequences either way. We want the results displayed BEFORE the person votes. We have searched all over the internet and there are many free poll software widgits available but all of them display the results only after you vote. And if you close your browser and reopen and go back to the site all them display the vote again with no results, as if you never voted. Then you can vote again. We don't want them to be able to vote again. Does anyone know where to find code for a poll or contest that show the results whether you have voted or not, and won't allow you to vote again?

Its difficult to prevent anyone from voting a second time (or more). Even if you set a long term cookie in the browser's cookie file to prevent someone's browser from taking the survey, someone who is determined enough to screw up your answers could go to a public library and answer your survey from work station to workstation and vote.

You are likely better off to use some statistical survey design to account for some 'voter fraud', but then again, that may require you to gather thousands of responses, or use language such as 'accurate plus or minus two percent 19 times out of 20' in your data reporting. You may not be able to gather enough responses to be statistically accurate, so you might be hooped again.

Here is a link to a software tool you might consider using.

This software is open source (free to download, free to use). Its likely a much larger tool than you'll need, but it does give you more control over who can participate in a survey, and how. Its likely much better than what you've been using.

Good luck with your surveys, I hipe this tool gives you the control you seek.
