Need Tagline For Design Consortium

Posted by brockdesigns on 500 Points
We are having trouble coming up with a tagline for our company.
Background - www.urbanidnw.com
We are a consortium of 6 independent designers in a trendy area of Portland,OR. Many of our neighbors are living in lofts, but we cater to all design styles and mid-high end clients. Each designer has her own business and unique focus ranging from window treatments/custom furniture to kitchen and bath design and complete project management. We want to appeal to walk in clients as well as market to homeowners looking to build and remodel.

We are now upscaling our marketing to appeal to men as well as women (our previous logo and colors were too feminine). Our tag line right now is "Define Your Style". A recent meeting with a business coach led us to believe we need to get a client to think about how they want to "feel" in their space. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What's wrong with the phrase "Portland's Premier Interior Design Studio" (that's on your website)? It says clearly what you do.

    Or:
    - Portland Interior Design Synergy
    - Transform Your Home Into Your Dreams
    - The Portland Interior Design Fanatic Team

Jay - that is something we thought would be a good one. It is to the point. Maybe we are trying to be too clever....

You might start by defining more precisely who your target audience is and what you want the tagline to communicate to them.

I would think the goal should be to add some emotional payoff or overtone to the name. If so, what emotion do you want to evoke? What is the most important benefit you deliver to your customers?

We want to target higher end clients but not scare away mid-range ones. We want to let them know that we can take the stress out of a build /remodel/ design and that we will help them achieve the home of their dreams. We want to make their lives more beautiful and functional with our designs.

I am on the same page as Steve. The main misconception with interior designers (my first degree and I have many years experience selling to those in the trade) is that you lose your personality. In my mind a good tagline (and name) should indicate of couse what you do, but add intrigue so someone will be inclined to not brush it off. Adding intrique makes them want to learn more not just say "oh, I know what they do, file this".

The other challenge is that they want to do it themselves (to express themselves) but don't want to muck it up. Your wording is perfect on the site (applause)

The wording on your site "we help our clients to visualize their own ideas." That is exactly what a good interior designer does .

    Your Design, Our Expertise
You Create, We make it Real
or just "we make it real"
With Our Help, Express yourself professionally
    Your Design, Our professionals
    We make your design reality
    Express your personality professionally
    Express the Inner You
Your Home, Your Design, Our Expertise

I added the extra verbage to help others understand the designers process and hope to get you even more ideas.

I am presenting these ideas on Tuesday to the group and I am excited to have so many of them.
The things that keep drawing attention to me are-
"Portland's Premier Interior Design Studio" and the words "visualize" , "create", "inspired design"

Do you think we could do a tag line on our signage of "Portland's Premier Interior Design Studio" and underneath have the words "inspired design"? Is it too much?

OK - we are hammering this out right now. Two of our younger designers feel that Premier is a word that is old-fashioned. The other four of us like it. Does anyone out there have input on this?

"inspired Interior Design Services" is one of our fans
    Thoughts?

Are you still trying to connect with an emotional feeling? If so, "inspired" probably isn't your best choice. What emotional words do people use after talking with you? Do you make their homes feel more: relaxing, spectacular, safe, impressive, successful, peaceful, etc.?

Premier might be a bit self-serving if you're just starting out together. If some (many/all) of you have won any awards, consider adding "Award-winning" to your tagline to give it social proof.

Thank you all for your valuable input. We have made a decision combining many of these ideas. I am closing out this post now. Thank you so much.

"Premier" is largely puffery -- and therefore has little or no impact. It's non-specific and non-competitive. (Everyone can be "premier." It doesn't really say you're better in any way.)

It's also not benefit oriented. As a prospective client, I don't know what to do with a word like "premier." Is that something I want? Is it of any benefit for me? I'd rather have a benefit than a claim of "premier."

My advice: Lose the word "premier," whether it's old-fashioned or not. Find a benefit word -- preferably one with emotional connotation.
