Have a new ad magazine and will be direct mailing to 50,000 homes in our area. What is the most effective way to sell Ads to businesses? Any ideas would be helpful.

    Most effective way would be to identify the prime targets, research what they're doing now, develop a custom presentation that gives them a compelling reason to advertise with you, and then approach them face-to-face to make your case and see if they have any objections you can address.

    You'll want to be sure you know what your competition is offering too.

    One of the fastest ways to get to businesses is through Google's Display network. Your spread (50,000 homes) may not be large - the people who want to advertise in that area will be larger, and that depends if where you are situated. So once you have answered Mr Goodman's questions, you can reach them quickly through Google and Bing. After that, you can work out who is interested and who is not - and so tailor any other campaigns around the knowledge you have gained.
