Printing A Salespaper

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi, I may be asking this in the wrong forum; but I'm trying to find any and all information regarding the printing of salespapers.

I'm in the printing business now, and trying to expand; and I've been searching for this online, and there seems to be no info regarding it.

As I said, we are looking to do a major expansion, and we are just vetting different options to see if they are profitable.

Perhaps the printing of salespapers can be a profitable option.

Any info that anyone could give me, I'd really appreciate.

Not sure. Are you asking about a printed version of "salespapers.net"? A collection of sales ads with some editorial? What is your definition of Salespaper? It's not a common term to me.

Okay... I'm talking about salespapers - the advertising papers that usually come along with the daily paper. Walmart has a salespaper. Local supermarkets have salespapers.

Do you know what I'm talking about now?

Yes, the common tern is "newspaper inserts". They can be printed by the newspaper's own printing machines, and they can be printed by outside independent printers such as your business.

Use keywords like "newspaper inserts", "newspaper sales inserts", "printing newspaper inserts" and the like in a google search. There is plenty of information available.

A little feedback. In our district there is a small printer - most small towns in the Netherlands have their own printer - this one decided that it would print its own salespaper. What started as a folded A3 (four sides of A4, which if you aren't familiar with the size is pretty close to a standard letter format) morphed fairly quickly into six and then eight and now 10 sides of advertisements - all local, all paid for on a regular basis by interested parties. They can advertise monthly or fortnightly as they wish. Many of these people use the printer for their own advertising, business cards and so on in any case.

It is delivered locally every other week (fortnightly) by one of the syndicated delivery services which takes the strain off the printer. It is a nice little earner for the printer - it is now so popular that they now have several color pages too.

The printers have achieved a following because there are always interesting offers and articles - as well as local emergency service telephone numbers on the front page.

I hope this information helps and inspires.

To the best of my knowledge, newspaper inserts are either printed by the newspapers themselves or supplied by the advertiser to the newspaper. The large players in this business have longstanding arrangements with their printer or have actually acquired the printing facilities themselves. It's going to be very difficult to break into this market as a printer.

If you want to become a packager of newspaper inserts, you'll have to hire a sales force to collect the advertisers. This is also highly competitive and seems like a major shift in position for a printer.

    I really appreciate the responses.

Believe me, I understand how hard it will be to break into this competitive printing niche, and that's why I'm trying to collect all of the needed information beforehand.

If nothing else, I think the comment that Moriarty left is great. I don't have to necessarily break into the establishment. I can create something more community-based, and build it up myself.

Thank you all for your feedback. I really appreciate it.
