Places Where Small Business Owners Can Connect?

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
Hi all,

Do you know of any forums (other than the marketing profs exchange) where small business owners can connect with other small business owners?

I say this because, I think it's very much needed. I've encountered so many small business owners that are taking losses, a lot of the time, because of corporate greed.

For instance, a credit card company just called me up. I've had bad experiences with credit card companies in the past. In my experience, they are never completely honest with you and so I'm very wary of them.

The guy that talked to me on the phone was nice enough and swore up and down that his company was legit. But I kept asking him hard questions that he had no answer for, and then I finally googled his company (I don't know if I can leave the company name here) and I didn't find ANYTHING online about them (besides their website). No reviews, nothing.

That in itself was a red flag for me. I figured I should have run across something - positive or negative.

So I kept questioning the guy, and then he finally reveals that the company recently changed their name. I google the old company name and lo and behold, the first thing that came up was that they have over 200 complaints against them.

So I just want to be able to share this experience with other small business owners, so that way we can help each other not be scammed.

Are there any sites where small business owners can connect and share experiences?

There are a great number of business forums across the web. For myself living in the Netherlands I occasionally post on https://www.higherlevel.nl/ which is government supported and well used.

May I ask you why this guy phoned you? Any serious marketer knows that calling people by phone is the toughest way to get leads - and there are heaps of ways to get qualified hot leads without annoying businessmen who are already under enough stress.

The logic and relevance of the connection between places where the owners of small businesses
can meet and exchange ideas and the man from the credit card company is lost on me.

Try local chamber of commerce, cooperative working spaces, regional economic development
offices, local commerce departments and state business offices, Rotary, and SCORE.
