With difficulty. The markets are jammed tight with great ideas and magazines that have run for a century and more.

The point about marketing is finding customers who like the things you do. just because you think it's a great idea doesn't mean that anybody else will. A friend of mine has just lost his house thanks to his great idea - that he couldn't find anybody to share his enthusiasm for.

So first you need an enthusiastic group of customers. Two will do for a start, and you can work up from there. After all, if you can make a dollar, that means you can make two. If products or magazines are your thing then go for it.

Either that or visit a trade show, ask how much they'll pay you to sell one of their products - and go sell. There are no few copywriters who make their living doing just that. They're great at sharing a good idea, and both parties win. All you need are customers who like what you're selling.

Online or print? Which subject area? Appealing to whom?

First you identify a specific target audience. Then you determine the most important need of that audience you can satisfy. Then you approach them with your solution.
