Need Help On Ways To Organize Template Files!!

Posted by panchal.priti on 125 Points
I am looking for ways to organize my companies growing list of application template files (template guide file and associated downloadable software file).

We currently have 17 and all are listed alphabetically on one website page, but it's getting very long.

I was thinking on having the alphabet along the top and the letters that would have content in them would be highlighted or something along those lines.

Another option is to group them into themes and each theme would have an image associated with the theme (noise & vibration, torque, etc..) and when clicked the user would be directed to the page that has the templates info, etc on it.

Any more ideas???

Let's take this from the other direction: a little reverse-engineering. How are people finding your website? Surely optimizing each template on its own webpage means it would be found by those who need it.

Which are the most popular templates? Are there any that back up others in the way of an up-sell?

You can then group them accordingly. This would then make the most sense to your visitors - and don't forget who's buying - and it isn't you! ;-)

How about visually instead of alphabetically? If the names of the files aren't immediately easy to understand, visually may be a better way (showing a thumbnail of the template).

Well these are free templates that that are used for company products to help new and existing customers get started testing faster. They are also used as a selling tool for our sales guys (we are a B2B business).

Therefore the people that would be going to the site would mainly be already existing and fairly new customers, through various means such as, Google Adwords, Sales reps directing them there, through e-mailers promoting them and our product, etc.

The more popular application template are for processes like Noise and Vibration testing, Weld monitoring and Leak testing. They are all different processes on their own.

I think I like the idea of grouping the ones that can be grouped, however in some cases there will only be one template in a under a groups name.

You're still looking the wrong way, if I may be so blunt.

You speak of sales reps directing "them" there - think not about what you're selling, think who needs the stuff you sell. Think of the questions they ask that they need your backup. Your sales guys should be able to fill you in on this with ease - if, that is, they're doing their job properly.

Adwords data will give you a real nudge in this direction too, it's pretty hard to hide. How have you organized your online PPC campaigns? These should give you an idea too. What are your landing pages like, and what is their responsivity? How have you been able to nudge the needle with them to increase the response? (Put bluntly: are your CTRs over 5%?)
