Is It Harmful To Change One's Domain In Career?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Dear all,
I would like to know form theexperienced people here whether is it alright to change one's domain during their career path.
Meaning I have been in Marketing department of IT companies (earlier IT education then IT software) Now I am getting an offer in the Marketing department of an HR consultancy company, so should I accept the job? will it affect my employibility or salability in the future? Or is it better to remain in the IT domain.
Thanks for all the help in advance.
Regards
Sanjeev

    Hi, Sanjeev --

I can't tell you whether to accept this new job.

I will say, however, that variety is good for developing a well-rounded career. The more experience you have in different industries, the better.

    Good luck!

Part of the decision will also be impacted by what you do within marketing. If you are involved more on a tactical end (such as marcom), your domain experience is not that important. If you are involved more in a strategic position (such as marketing management), domain experience (and knowledge of the industry and customer) becomes more important.
