I'm Looking For Helpful Ideas For Project

Posted by alex111alex111 on 125 Points
As a school project, I have to do a survey of a diverse group of job seekers, different genders, different ethnic backgrounds, from varied (usa) locations. I'm looking for ideas on how to best find people for this. I have a very small budget. Any helpful ideas will be welcomed

Recruiting for any market research project is a serious undertaking -- and especially so when you are looking for a very specific group of respondents (like active job seekers). And it's even harder when the budget is very small.

    Two thoughts:

    1. Job seekers are usually using LinkedIn. You could look for job-seekers there, and see if you can recruit enough respondents for your study.

    2. Perhaps you can run a small Adwords campaign and recruit job seekers that way.

Either way, you will need to develop the questionnaire. Keep it very short and focused. You don't want people bailing without completing the survey, after you have invested in recruiting them.

It's quite possible that many states/metro areas have non-profit and/or government sponsored agencies for job seekers (for example, for California: https://calworkforce.org/). Connecting with such agencies could be one approach.

You mention that you're looking for differing demographics as far as gender, ethnicity, and geographic location. Do you also need diversity in the educational level, career area (technology, health, educational, etc.) for the job seekers? If you don't need these, you might be able to get some help from hiring managers in companies that do nationwide recruiting. For instance, you might approach HR at Amazon or Google and let them know that you're a student working on a project, and see if they would be willing to send the applicants for some of their positions a link to a Survey Monkey questionnaire that you had created.

    Best of luck!
