In Search Of A Graduation Project Topic

Posted by m.kpriya456 on 250 Points
Hello,
I am pursuing my graduation final year(B.Com Honors) and in dire need for an interesting idea for my final year project. Although I have certain rough ideas regarding the same such as opting LEVER AYUSH as the base or maybe even LALITHA JEWELLERS(the currently emerging) as the base but I lack the clarity on to how to relate these to the actual subjects, for instance, marketing or advertising etc. In addition to this, I have one more in mind and that is something related to realistic advertising(owners advertising their own products like in the case of Patanjali and Lalithaa Jewellers) and to probably estimate their impact on consumer's deisions. Could you please help me in connecting the scribbled dots and giving your view on what my objectives could be? It could be of great help to me.
Thanking you in expectancy

Focus your attention on the smallest target possible -- one brand, one geographic area, one form of advertising, etc. You are going to have to research the topic, and the broader the scope the more challenging your research will be. Remember that you will need to collect and analyze the data, so spend as little time as possible collecting the data and the most time analyzing and demonstrating your skill at drawing conclusions and coming up with indicated action.

Thanks for the valuable words sir.
How do you think taking up a project on consumer preference between Patanjali and Lever Ayush would sound like? I shall change the title though. Or do you think taking "impact of realistic advertising on consumer decisions with special reference to Lalithaa Jewellers" would fetch more usability?
    Awaiting your response.
    Thank you.

    My reactions:

    1. Specify a limited geography -- one you can reach without great expense or difficulty. A neighborhood would be better than a city, etc.

    2. Don't generalize from your findings. You won't know whether your results would be the same everywhere, in every product category, or for every brand.

For examples: "impact of realistic advertising on consumer decisions with special reference to Lalithaa Jewellers" is probably overreach; and "consumer preference between Patanjali and Lever Ayush" may be different in the North than in the South, or even from neighborhood to neighborhood within a city.

How would you gather the data for either of these projects? Consider that before you settle on a topic.

Sir, I shall gather the data from my college itself where students in between ages 18 and 21 shall contribute and from few members from very limited areas of age above 40. Yes, indefinitely I shall frame the topic more precisely specifying the geographic area as well.
Which among the two topics mentioned above would you suggest that seems to be carrying more usability?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that its through questionnaires.

Are the college students representative of the customers of these companies? If not, you'll start with bad data.

Oh yes,I agree to that. But am quite sure that a significant number of students do use the Patanjali products. Unsure about Lever Ayush as its still not that settled down in the market as against Patanjali has.
