Mediation Student-new Business Name And Tagline

Hello everyone! I'm a student working toward a certificate in mediation. My goal is to open my own mediation practice beginning next spring (2021). I'm starting the process of preparing my business plan and am exploring ideas for my practice name and tagline. My strengths are family law categories as well as consumer protection issues. Is it advisable to combine interests in a sole mediation business? Or is it wise to find a focus and become solely proficient in that area? What suggestions/recommendations would you offer for business names and taglines?

    I wouldn't focus on a name/tagline until you're clear on your target audience. You could always simply use your name as the name of your business, and have a tagline say something like "Specializing in XYZ Mediation." The more expert you are at a field, the easier it is to standout and target those that are likely to need you. The more general you are, the harder it'll be to convince people that you can do two (or more) specialties equally well - especially if your specialties appeal to two very different audiences.

    You may want to do some work to determine the market size of those two options. And probably an average time-to-resolution for cases in those fields. Initially, it would be best to focus where your chances of more income faster are found. Always remember to build your brand...people need to know about you and to think good things about you. Diversification can come after you have built some business momentum. You'll have a great brand to leverage into other areas.

    The name and tagline need to follow from your company positioning, and that needs to be an integral part of your business plan. Start by defining your target audience -- the more specifically the better -- and the unique compelling benefit they can expect from you.
